Aviation Week & Space Technology has named the recipients of its
seventh annual Technology Innovation Awards. The winners are drawn
from AW&ST's review of new products in its monthly Aerospace
Products & Services section. A panel of seven judges from the
private sector and military services chose the most deserving for
the awards, which will be presented at Aviation Week's Aerospace &
Defense Programs and Productivity Conference, October 28 in
Arlington, TX.
This year's winners are: * Arc Second's "indoor GPS" system that
uses infrared light for aerospace metrology applications. *
Honeywell 's CAT-scan-like inspection system for business jets. *
Lockheed Martin Space & Strategic Missiles' near-zero-erosion rocket
nozzle for launchers. * Southwest Research Institute, which
developed the first facility for developing and testing
microelectromechanical systems in vacuum conditions.
"Innovation has driven the aerospace industry since the Wright
Brothers flew the first powered flight almost 100 years ago," said
Aviation Week Executive Vice President/Publisher Kenneth E. Gazzola.
"The technologies selected as the recipients of Aviation Week's
Technology Innovation Awards are likely to pay dividends for years
to come in new capabilities and improved efficiencies for aerospace
manufacturing, aircraft maintenance and space exploration."
